LOCAL OPERATORS worried new scheme will ruin their traditional way of life.
Chinese-owned Mobike will be launching its dockless bike sharing scheme in Salford and Manchester. However, local thieves claim the existing system already works well.
“This is bullshit man. We’ve already got a perfectly good dockless bike share scheme” said local operator Ian Knowles.
“I can pick up a bike wherever I want using my universal lock opener” explained Ian, pulling a long pair of bolt cutters from his trouser leg.
“And when I’m done, I just park the fucker in a bush or the canal, ready for the next person to use it.
“The system does get busy. But if you can’t find a bike on the street, you can always look on Gumtree, where I leave all the good ones.”
Use of the current scheme in Manchester is double the national average.
University of Manchester sociologist, Janet Turnham said, “Bike theft has a strong heritage in Manchester. It’s a shame to see big business displacing these traditional local artisans.”
